Upperby Methodist Chapel was part of the Carlisle Cecil St Circuit, built over one hundred years ago. A stone dated 1901 can be seen above the front door of the chapel.
During 1926 a generous sized hall was built, attached to the chapel to accommodate the Sunday school and the many midweek activities; Christian Endeavour, the Girls League, Women’s Bright Hour, Girls Life Brigade, the Boys Brigade and the Life Boys.
In 1932 the Chapel’s Brass Band had 26 bandsmen, often travelling to other village chapels, and supporting open air services at Hammonds Pond, the local park.
