Mrs Kathleen Bowron

Circuit Steward

I was born in South Shields, County Durham moving to Westerhope near Newcastle then Hexham.

My parents were committed Presbyterians and encouraged my sisters and myself in the Christian faith. I attended Queen Elizabeth Grammar School Hexham before I began work in Barclays Bank.

When married I left paid employment to bring up my family, as we moved around the country, I was always involved with church life in many capacities.

I also served on the School P.T.A. which led to becoming a Parent Governor in Dunstable. On arrival at Duffield we found a shortage of Cub Scout leaders, so I became an Akela!

It was at Craigmillar Park Church Edinburgh that I was asked to become an Elder of the Church of Scotland a position I held for about 25 years until moving to Cumbria. It was there that the minister’s wife and I began a weekly lunch club, open to all, which I am pleased to say is still going strong 30 years later. I was also responsible for keeping the roll of church members.

Since moving I have become a steward of Monkhill church where I helped start up another lunch club, this time monthly.

I serve as a parish councillor, and as a Trustee of the Cumbria Cumberland Federation of Women’s Institutes.
